My design services include but are not limited to consultation, garden design, project management, and the final installation of the garden. I’ve organized my process into three phases:
Phase 1:
Initial consultation at your property. I will observe the site and we will discuss your goals and overall vision for the garden. Don’t worry if you don’t have a clear vision though; I will gladly guide you through different design options and ideas. At this stage we will also discuss your budget for the project. If and when you choose to hire me, the cost of the consultation ($50 per hour) will be in addition to a deposit of 25% of the total estimated cost of the project.
Phase 2:
Design and accompanying materials are delivered to you. I will give you a time frame in which to expect the design materials. During this time, I or other landscapers may need to visit your property again. You will receive a design of your new garden with photographs of the proposed plants, a plant list, and an estimate of cost. With your input, we will decide on any necessary changes to be made to the design, and discuss the scheduling of the project. My fee for the design of an average sized suburban lot is $50 per hour. For larger gardens or a more complicated site, this fee will be moderately higher. All design materials must be paid for, should you choose not to hire me for the installation and completion of the project. Otherwise, my estimate signed by you indicates agreement for the work to be done.
Phase 3:
Project management and the installation of the garden. During this time I will maintain close contact with outside landscapers or contractors as needed on your behalf while keeping you abreast of important project details. I will oversee and contribute to the proper installation and care of the plant materials. The remaining cost of the project is due upon the completion of the installation. I charge $25 per hour per gardener (myself included). Please keep in mind that outside contractors may have different labor rates for their services.
Whether you wish to maintain the garden yourself, or choose to have me do periodic maintenance, feeding, and mulching (or a combination of the two), we will produce a schedule for the tasks required to maintain a healthy and attractive garden for years to come.
